🚗 Auto Insurance FAQ
Why does my insurance go up even if I have no accidents or tickets?
→ Rates can increase because of higher repair and medical costs, inflation, insurer rate changes, location, and credit-based insurance scores where allowed.
→ Rates may also be affected by claim trends in your area, even if you personally had no accidents.
👉 It’s not just about your driving record. /
Will my rate go up if I use my insurance for an accident that is not my fault?
→ If the other driver is at fault, you normally claim against their insurance first.
→ If you use your own collision, MedPay/PIP, or other coverage, the claim may still affect your insurance history depending on the state and company.
→ If an attorney recommends using MedPay/PIP, understand that it is still a claim under your own policy.
👉 Not at fault doesn’t always mean no impact. /
Will my insurance cover Uber, rideshare, or delivery driving?
Uber, rideshare
→ Personal auto coverage may be limited or excluded during rideshare or delivery use.
→ Tell your insurer, add any required endorsement, and check when the rideshare company’s coverage applies.
👉 Check both your personal policy and rideshare coverage before driving.
Do I need to add my teenage child to my auto policy?
→ Requirements vary by insurance company. Some insurers require notification when a teen receives a learner’s permit, while others require the teen to be added once licensed.
→ Always notify your insurer when a household member begins driving.
👉 Don’t assume—check your insurer’s rule. /

→ Water or sewer backup often requires additional coverage.
→ Flood, long-term leakage, deterioration, and wear and tear are generally not covered by standard homeowners insurance.

A roofer says insurance will pay 100%. Should I do it?
→ Be cautious. A contractor cannot guarantee that your insurance company will pay for a roof replacement.
→ Coverage depends on the cause of damage, your policy, deductible, roof condition, and how the loss is settled.
→ Normal wear, aging, and deterioration are generally not covered.
→ Contact your insurance company or agent before authorizing insurance-related repairs.

Why is my coverage higher than my home value?
→ Home insurance is generally based on the estimated cost to rebuild the structure, not its market value.
→ Rebuilding costs include labor, materials, construction costs, and other factors that may differ significantly from the home’s selling price.
→ The dwelling limit is usually estimated using replacement-cost information about the home.
👉 Replacement cost is not market value. /
Who pays for condo water damage?
→ It depends on where the water came from, what was damaged, the condo association’s master policy and bylaws, and whether anyone was legally responsible for the loss.
→ Your condo policy may cover damage inside your unit even when the water originated from another unit, and the insurers may determine responsibility afterward.
→ HOA coverage may apply to certain building or common-area property depending on the master policy.
👉 Check the cause, your policy, and the HOA master policy.

→ It is basic protection for your business, your assets, and the customers you serve.

Why do I pay interest on cash value loans?
→ One of the advantages of permanent life insurance is that you can access your cash value while the policy is in force.
→ A policy loan, however, is structured as a loan from the insurance company using your cash value as collateral, so interest is charged.
→ Unlike a typical loan, you usually do not have to repay it on a fixed monthly schedule. If you do not repay it, the outstanding loan and interest are generally deducted from the policy’s cash value or death benefit.
Can life insurance pay benefits while I'm alive?
→ Some life insurance policies offer Living Benefits or Accelerated Death Benefits that allow you to access part of the death benefit while you are alive if certain conditions are met.
→ However, life insurance is designed primarily to provide a death benefit—not to replace health insurance or pay all medical expenses.
→ Living Benefits usually have specific eligibility requirements and using them may reduce the amount later paid to your beneficiaries.
→ Be cautious if life insurance is presented as a substitute for health insurance or as a way to cover all medical costs.
→ Living Benefit

What is the difference between HMO and PPO?
→ HMO plans generally require you to choose a Primary Care Physician (PCP) and may require referrals to see specialists.
→ PPO plans usually have a larger network and more flexibility, including out-of-network coverage, but premiums are often higher.

What are deductible, coinsurance, and out-of-pocket max?
Deductible, Coinsurance, Out-of-Pocket Max
→ Deductible: What you pay before the plan starts sharing many covered costs.
→ Coinsurance: Your share of covered costs after the deductible, such as 20%.
→ Out-of-pocket max: The most you generally pay in a year for covered in-network care.

Example /
→ First $2,000 = deductible
→ Remaining $8,000 × 20% = $1,600
